Embark on a breathtaking 9-hour journey with Uganda Horizon Safaris, traveling from Entebbe or Kampala to the heart of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Though long, the drive is incredibly scenic, taking you along winding roads through lush countryside, vibrant villages, and stunning landscapes. As you approach Bwindi, the road narrows and twists through dense, mountainous forest — a sign that the wild is near. Keep your eyes peeled for sightings of monkeys, antelope, and even zebras along the way. This unforgettable drive sets the stage for the ultimate highlight: your once-in-a-lifetime encounter with the endangered mountain gorillas!
The Rushaga sector in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to eight gorilla families, some of which are still unaccustomed to human presence. The area is ideal for Gorilla Tracking. During a mountain gorilla trekking tour, you can hike along challenging trails, spending either an hour with the habituated groups or, at an extra cost, up to four hours observing the less familiar giants in their natural habitat. This once-in-a-lifetime experience, where you can watch the gorillas eat, play, and be guarded by the silverback, will leave you in awe and may even bring tears of joy to your eyes. Please note that gorilla tracking is conducted in groups of up to 8 people, requires proper hiking shoes, and typically lasts 2–4 hours.

Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Nkuringo with Uganda Horizon Safaris
The Nkuringo sector, nestled in the southwestern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, offers one of the most rewarding and challenging mountain gorilla trekking experiences in Uganda. Known for its higher altitudes and breathtaking landscapes, Nkuringo provides panoramic views of the Virunga volcanoes, including the Congolese Mount Nyiragongo and Mount Nyamuragira. With Uganda Horizon Safaris, you can easily combine your trek with visits to the scenic Lake Mutanda and Lake Mulehe.
Please note: Participants must be at least 15 years old. Treks typically last between 2–4 hours, require proper hiking boots, and are conducted in small groups of up to 8 people. While every effort is made to ensure a sighting, gorilla encounters cannot be guaranteed due to the wild nature of these magnificent animals.
As you journey back to Entebbe with Uganda Horizon Safaris, you once again pass through vibrant villages bustling with lively marketplaces, endless stretches of tea and coffee plantations, and the smooth green hills that define Uganda’s stunning countryside. Along the way, you might even spot some wildlife offering a final wave goodbye.
