This itinerary offers an extra acclimatisation day at either John Matte Camp, enhancing comfort, reducing altitude risk, and allowing you to explore side valleys, highland lakes, and rugged moorlands at a relaxed pace while still achieving the Margherita summit.
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport. Transfer to your hotel for a welcome meeting, gear check, and introduction to Uganda Horizon Safaris site staff. Relax, hydrate, and get mentally prepared for your upcoming mountain journey.
Morning flight to Kasese by Aerolink. Drive to trailhead and begin trekking through dense rainforest to Nyabitaba Hut. Guides interpret forest ecology, monkeys and tropical birdlife, and you settle into alpine sleeping arrangements.
A scenic forest-to-heather hike leads you to John Matte Hut. Cross views of plateau ridges and cascades, pick up pace through bamboo then mixed moorland. Arrive in afternoon, settle in, and prepare for acclimatisation.
Explore Bigo Bog or nearby alpine valleys with your guides, observing unique flora and fauna. Return to hut mid-afternoon, rest and engage in summit briefings and talk through safety protocols for the climb ahead.
Depart John Matte, hiking across high moorlands with giant lobelias and glacial lakes in sight. Reach Bujuku Hut mid-afternoon. Relax, enjoy reflective moments by the lake, and prepare gear for glacier conditions.
Summit attempt before dawn, climbing snow and ice ridges. After reaching the top, descend via Kitandara to Guy Yeoman Hut, celebrating your success with fellow trekkers under starry skies.
Trek down to Nyakalengija, meet porters at gate, transfer to Kasese for an evening of rest and debriefing with Uganda Horizon Safaris before domestic travel.
Morning transfer to Kasese Airstrip and flight back to Entebbe. Final drop-off at the airport or hotel concludes your Rwenzori summit experience.
The day is left free to wind down after the trek before your flight home. Depending on flight times you could go and explore Moshi town and grab some souvenirs before heading to the airport.
